CREWMAN'S BODY RECOVERED AFTER FALLING FROM BARGE
|
|
ST. LOUIS - The body of a crewman from the towing vessel Jeff Boat was recovered today after falling from a barge while transisting through Lock and Dam number 14 near Leclaire, Iowa on the Upper Mississippi River.
The Coast Guard received the report of the incident at approximately 4:30 a.m., from the master of the vessel. Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River coordinated emergency first responders and dispatched a casualty investigation team from Rock Island, Illinois. The lock and dam haulted operations while the Scott County Sheriff's Department began the search. The deceased was recovered soon after the incident and taken to Genesis East Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.
The Coast Guard is investigating the incident.
