COAST GUARD RESPONDS TO VESSEL COLLISION ON THE TENNESSEE RIVER 

MUSSEL SHOALS, Ala.  Crewmembers from Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley are responding today to a report that a towing vessel collided with a recreational vessel on the Tennessee River.

At approximately 8 p.m. Thursday the Coast Guard received a report from a crewmember aboard the towing vessel Potomac reporting the Potomac and its tow had collided with a pleasure boat.

Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Paducah, Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Nashville, Alabama Marine Police, Colbert County Alabama Emergency Management, Florence County Alabama Emergency Management, and local police and water rescue units responded.

One victim reportedly aboard the recreational vessel was recovered deceased.

Coast Guard marine investigating officers are on-scene, assessing the conditions of the towing vessel, its barges and assisting local and state responders.

The incident is under investigation.
