FINAL UPDATE: COAST GUARD REOPENS OHIO RIVER NEAR OLD SHAWNEETOWN, Ill.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Coast Guard has reopened a section of the Ohio River, today from mile marker 847.5 to 849, which had previously been restricted due to shoaling.

Increased runoff from the Wabash River created shoaling in the navigation channel causing the river closure June 24, 2008. The river was later reopened with restrictions while dredging operations were conducted in the affected area.

The Coast Guard, Army Corps of Engineers and Industry partners worked in partnership to open the river without restrictions and resume normal river traffic activities.
