COAST GUARD ASSISTS DISABLED SAILING VESSEL

NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard safely towed a disabled sailing vessel, the Trekker, from the Gulf of Mexico to Sabine, Texas at approximately 1 a.m., today.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from a tank vessel Monday reporting that the Trekker had lost all electrical power with two people aboard and needed assistance.

The Coast Guard Cutter Bear, homeported in Portsmouth, Va., was dispatched to the vicinity of the distressed vessel and took the Trekker in tow.

The Coast Guard Cutter Sturgeon, homeported in Grand Isle, La., relieved the Cutter Bear late Tuesday and finished towing the vessel into Sabine, Texas.

No injuries have been reported.
