UPDATE: COAST GUARD SUSPENDS SEARCH FOR VESSEL IN DISTRESS

MOBILE, Ala. - The Coast Guard suspended its search this evening for the vessel Cobalt approximately 64-miles southeast of Panama City Pass.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a Mayday distress call this morning from the Rescue 21 Tower, the Pinnacle St. Joe, reporting that the vessel was in distress.

Sector Mobile launched a HU-25 Falcon jet and crew from the Aviation Training Center here, the Coast Guard Cutter Bonito, homeported in Pensacola, Fla., and had issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast to local Mariners in the area to stay alert for possible people or a vessel in distress.

The HU-25 Falcon jet crew conducted three sorties with negative results and the Cutter Bonito searched the area, but found no vessel in distress.
