COAST GUARD RESCUES KAYAKER FROM GALVESTON BAY

HOUSTON - The Coast Guard rescued a distressed kayaker from Galveston Bay in the vicinity of the north end of the Texas City Dike, early this evening.

A watchstander at Sector Houston-Galveston received a call at 5:05 p.m. from the man's friend reporting the kayaker had overturned and was unable to get back into his kayak.

The Coast Guard dispatched a 47-foot rescue boat crew from Station Galveston and diverted an HH-65C rescue helicopter crew from a training mission to assist in the search.

At approximately 5:25 p.m. the kayaker was located, wearing a life jacket, and hoisted by the rescue helicopter crew.  He was taken to Galveston Scholes Airport where EMS were awaiting his arrival.  EMS assessed his condition and released the man.
