MSU Galveston to hold media availability day

HOUSTON - The Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit, located in Galveston, Texas, will host a media availability day Friday, Aug. 15, 2008.

MSU Galveston's primary missions include commercial vessel and shore facility safety and security, marine investigations, waterway management, maritime law enforcement, commercial fishing vessel safety, and environmental response. 

MSU Galveston is a primary response and investigation unit for the ruptured oil pipeline in Dickinson Bayou, which occurred Aug. 7, 2008.  The unit would like to open its doors to the press to enhance cooperation with the media.  The forum will be open for topics such as the new Liquid Natural Gas Facilities, the Transportation Worker Identification Credential, and Community outreach programs.
