COAST GUARD ESTABLISHES SAFETY ZONE ON OHIO RIVER

PITTSBURGH A safety zone is scheduled to be put in effect with restricted navigation on the entire width of the Ohio River from mile marker 90.4 to mile marker 91.5 on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 and Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008. 

Due to the Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta, the safety zone will be enforced from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. until approximately 6 p.m. on both days of the event.

Persons and vessels shall not enter into, depart from, or move within this safety zone unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port in Pittsburgh or by a designated representative.

Questions concerning this matter should be directed to Matt DeFusco at (412) 644-5808 at ext. 2112 during normal working hours between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.  After normal working hours, contact the Marine Safety Unit in Pittsburgh at (412) 670-4281. 

All concerned traffic can contact the Coast Guard on the day of the event on VHF-FM Channel 16.
