COAST GUARD SEARCHES FOR MISSING MAN

NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard is searching for a man who reportedly jumped into the Mississippi River late Thursday in the vicinty of mile marker 95 near the Canal Street Ferry.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report Thursday evening from the Vessel Traffic System reporting that a man had jumped into the river near the Spanish Plaza here.  Sector New Orleans launched a 25-foot small boat from Station New Orleans and a HH-65C rescue helicopter and crew from Air Station New Orleans to the area.  An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) was also issued to mariners as a caution in the area.

The New Orleans Harbor Poilce is also responding to the report.
