Coast Guard Disaster Assistance Response Teams Deploy to Gulf Coast Region

Louisville, Ky- Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley has deployed three Disaster Assistance Response Teams (DARTs) from Louisville, Paducah and Huntington, WV, today in response to potential flooding in the gulf coast area due to Hurricane Gustav. DARTs are capable of conducting search and rescue operations in shallow water and urban environments and consist of seven person crews comprised of active duty and reserve personnel. The DART teams are outfitted with various rescue and communications equipment. Additional DARTs teams located in the Pittsburgh and Nashville are on standby and are ready for immediate deployment to provide assistance within hurricane impacted areas.
