Coast Guard responds to bridge allision on the Ohio River

HENDERSON, Ky. – The U.S. Coast Guard  is responding to an allision involving the 70-foot uninspected towing vessel Gentry B and the U.S. 41 Day Park Highway Bridge at mile marker 786 on the Ohio River.

Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley received a report from a crewmember aboard the Gentry B at approximately 3:15 p.m., Saturday, reporting that while pushing 3 loaded grain barges, the Gentry B allided with the bridge.  The Coast Guard immediately dispatched its marine inspection and investigation teams to the scene to assess damage and determine the cause of the incident. 

One crewmember from the Gentry B was reported to be injured and taken to Community Methodist hospital by local authorities.  

No pollution has been reported at this time.

The Day Park Bridge was shut down to traffic in order to allow the Kentucky Department of Transportation (KDOT) to conduct a damage assessment.  The bridge has since been reopened to vehicle traffic. 

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
