Crew from Coast Guard Cutter Cypress Gives Back to Community (1.26 MB)
MOBILE, Ala. – Crewmembers from the Coast Guard Cutter Cypress, a 225-foot seagoing buoy tender home ported in Mobile, spent a day volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in Citronelle, Ala. The crewmembers helped add roofing and siding to two houses on Nov. 27, 2007. “Most of the crewmembers who volunteered had no experience with installing siding or roofing but after receiving orientation, all members were able to participate in assisting two needing families in Critonelle,” said Ensign EvelynAnn Butt, Cypress morale officer. “By the end of the day, both houses were shingled, one house was fully sided and the other half way complete. In all, the crew was able to spend a day in the sun giving back to the community."
